7 Direct Mail “MUSTS”

  1. Your direct mail promotion MUST have a powerful headline that grabs the reader’s attention immediately.
  2. The focus of the letter MUST be clear: What’s in it for the reader? What problem of his are you going to solve? What benefit are you going to promise him? Without a clear focus on the reader, your promotion is doomed.
  3. When it comes to making a promise or explaining a point, the copy MUST show the reader rather than “tell” the reader. Don’t be satisfied with a simple explanation…instead, “beat the reader over the head” with an idea he’ll remember long after he’s stopped reading.
